History of Religious Studies
Religiuos studies also known as study of religion is the study devoted to religious beliefs, behaviours and institutions. The term religion was from the Latin world religio that means an object of worship/ holy thing or holy place. Study of religion started back to the time of Hecataeus of Miletus and Herodotus (ca. 484 BCE-425 BCE). In the middle ages, Islamic scholars Ibn Hazm studied religions like Persian, Jewish, Christian and Indian. Treatise on the Religious and Philosophical Sects, is the first book for history of religion and it was written by a Muslim Scholar namedMuhammad al-Shahrastani.
